Comprehensive Literacy Training
This customized K-12 training offers foundational and advanced training in effective research-based reading instructional practices, based on the latest reading and writing research, including the key findings of the National Reading Panel Report. Training can be divided to address specific components depending on the grade level, such as early literacy, including letter knowledge and phonological and phonemic awareness; decoding and word study, including phonics, irregular words, and syllabication; vocabulary; fluency; comprehension; assessment. Participants are provided numerous opportunities to analyze, reflect, and ultimately, adjust instructional practices based on the research. Demonstrations are provided for all effective instructional strategies that are introduced; participants are then provided a practicum in which they apply newly learned strategies as instructor provides feedback. CORE Teaching Reading Sourcebook 2nd Edition is used as the foundational textbook of the training and is referenced throughout. Follow-up demonstrations and coaching in the classroom can also be planned as part of the training.
